Here I Am!

Hi Jack! I didn't forget and now have my account set up.  Cool idea!  Would love to see a help wanted and for sale (I wanna get rid of....) area.  Would love to see more photos of current happenings, potlucks (yum!), etc.  Time to trash old photos?  I think that 1 year should be sufficient and then replace them with more current stuff.  Jean Morehouse    Holy cow!  That save button is a looooong way down!

Glad You Found It OK

Comment:

Thanks Jean. I was beginning to wonder if maybe it didn't work.
Happy to have your thoughts on photo retention. Coincidentally, I happen to agree on the one year retention. I wonder what others think on the subject? Too bad more people haven't looked at the blog.
Let's be patient a little longer and see if anybody else wants to chime in before we act. There are a number of photos on the site which are candidates for removal already.
Good comment on the SAVE button. I'll see if I can figure out something better.
Glad you are here - Jack

Retention of Event Pictures on this Website

Comment:

One of the oft discussed issues about our website is "How Long Should Photographs of an Event, such as a trip to a baseball game, be retained"?

It won't be much longer until some of our photos, submitted by members, will be 2 years old.

Are we still interested in viewing them or should they be trashed in maybe 1 year?

pictures & events

Comment:

I agree with Jeannie - one year for pictures is probably long enough; of course, the rate I am going you won't get the pictures until a year after they are taken:-)

On another note, I hope that everyone in the congregation will come to some of the events that Mat is planning.  They are a great way to get to know our fellow sisters/brothers in Christ and are lots of fun besides!  I especially hope that people will plan to go to Gregory's this coming Sunday.  He is putting a lot of time, money and effort into that event!

Retention Etc

Comment:

Thanks for helping to energize the blog Becky.
We are intending to be at Greg's if all else goes as planned. It sounds very special.
I'm laughing at your comment about getting pictures together. I think a lot of us have the same trouble.
Sandy put some in on Wednesday, this week, from Tuesday's gathering. That is probably a record for speedy turn-around :)
Glad you found the blog Becky. Tell others!

I just had a thought - though

Comment:

I just had a thought - though maybe it won't happen till you get back in the spring.  You should do a presentation at 60s plus and let people try the church blog right there.  If you can put this page up on the screen, they could even watch you do it first.  We could bring our laptop and perhaps Ray could also bring his, so we could have a couple of computers at least for people to practice on.  Then you could talk with people about the possibilities for the website.  If they knew that they could get help or get rid of stuff, maybe more of them would use it.

Priorities

Comment:

Mary and I have been pals with a group of a dozen couples since we arrived in Fremont fifty years ago.  We've celebrated the birth of children, graduations from high school and college, marriages, the arrival of grand children.  Now, the first of us, Wayne Wolfsen, has passed away and we're celebrating his life with us, though with sadness and heavy hearts.  Wayne's passing and Pastor Ray's sermon today remind me that today is the day that the Lord hath made and I should be glad, rejoice in it, show caring to people in my extended family and hug those I love.  Shalom.  jb

Sanctuary Video Projection System

Comment:

As I talk with members of other churches and acquire more knowledge of what they are doing, I have come to believe that we are missing out on many opportunities presented in today's world by our failure to have a good video projection system in our sanctuary. The only negative which I can see is the esthetics and I'm certain that we are sufficiently talented and resourceful to design a screen installation which is invisible when not in use.

I am very aware that we have members who both favor and oppose audio/visual material being used in the sanctuary. It was not practical until recently and we sure don't like any change :) What do you think? Why don't you weigh in here and share your thoughts.

Website Ministry

Comment:

I would like to propose the formation of a "Website Ministry" dedicated to the maintenance and evolution of the FCC Website. There are many additional tools and attractions which we could implement through our website and I think they would be implemented in the best interests of our church through the guidance and governance of a Ministry dedicated to those purposes.

What do you think?

Website Ministry

Comment:

Thanks Ted. Wish I knew how to go about it.
The idea actually came from Ray in a conversation we were having. Frankly I don't know where to start so I thought I'd toss the thought into the blog and see who has some thoughts on the matter.
I think it is important to the continuity of the site that a body from the Congo assume some responsibility for the site.
Thanks for your comment. Hoping others might chime in as well.

Blog Disinterest

Comment:

I think it is obvious that our Church membership has almost no interest in expressing themselves via a blog.

I am going to suggest that we kill the blog along with a lot of the activity areas where, after an initial flurry of contributions, there have been zero to very few contributions recently.

I wonder what our membership sees as the best uses of this website. WE own it together.

I'm wondering if anybody will respond to this. It won't take long to find out :)

Jack

P.S. I very much enjoyed a recent book available on Amazon and others: "Autopsy of a Deceased Church" by Thom Rainer.

Upside down Blog

I read the same book - borrowed it from AW. It was very interesting. I see I am the first person to respond to your comments from back in May, lol.  I think it's because the newest entries aren't up on top so it looks like there is nothing new. Jill

Website Ministry - winter '16

Comment:

Hi Jack S et al.  How do we continue regular meetings, dialog in winter?  Until mid-January four of us can meet in Pastor's office and call you on the speaker phone.  After mid-January when I'm in Florida, I can call Pastor, Jill or Dean cellphones, then can put their on speaker and near the land-line speaker phone; I'll be connected.   What a productive and fun group.  Thx for including me.  jb
